NUT Cymru Secretary David Evans today pays tribute to the youngsters and their teachers for the hard work which has led to GCSE success.
He said, “First we must congratulate all those who have achieved such excellent results in their first big milestone for educational achievement. Most 15 and 16 year olds who make up the majority of GCSE students are under enormous pressure to deliver and we must recognise the standards achieved as a major success.
“The standards are as high as ever and the continuing improvement should spark celebration for the individual pupils, their families and teachers. The amount of work that today’s youngsters put in to exam work and the guidance they receive from their schools continues to increase. Today’s GCSE students are our future and the results stand us in good stead. We must be proud of our pupils and the schools and teachers that have inspired them.
“Alongside the GCSEs we have also had the results at the Foundation and Intermediate level of the Welsh Baccalaureate with increasing numbers securing this qualification. It is positive and inspiring news that so many are achieving their goals.”
