Reading For Pleasure – Online Resource Guide
Welcome to the NUT’s Reading4Pleasure zone. Here you can find the NUT’s policy booklet on the importance of reading for pleasure, as well as the on-line resources guide. This contains a wealth of practical suggestions about how activities to promote reading for pleasure can be introduced back into the classroom or organised on a whole school basis. The on-line guide also suggests professional development activities, ideas for whole school policy development and sources of further information designed to extend teachers’ knowledge of high quality reading resources.
The section will be regularly up-dated with members’ contributions so why not bookmark it so it can be your first port of call for all matters concerned with reading for pleasure?
Our award winning exhibition stand at the political party conferences this autumn provided a useful platform from which to speak about our campaign to make Reading for Pleasure a fundamental part of childhood and learning. Those who visited it, including senior politicians, journalists, Olympic medallists and celebrities, recorded their favourite children’s book in our enormous book and enthused about the pleasure they found in reading. They largely shared concerns about the Government’s nonsensical Year 1 phonics check, and the importance of making reading enjoyable.
