Campaigning Against Trust Schools: Information And Guidance From The National Union Of Teachers
A Trust school is:
- A maintained school with a charitable foundation involving ‘external partners’ such as businesses and charities
- Funded by the local authority
- The direct employer of staff and owner of school land, buildings and other assets
The NUT campaigns against Trust School status, and believes that all community schools should remain as community schools.
Irrespective of the type of school NUT members work in, NUT members will receive the Union’s full support, advice, services and protection.
Guidance from the National Union of Teachers on Trust Schools is available below. The guidance is divided into the following chapter headings:
WHAT IS A TRUST SCHOOL?
HOW ARE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND TRUST SCHOOLS DIFFERENT?
WHAT REQUIREMENTS ARE PLACED ON TRUST SCHOOLS?
WHAT IS THE NUT’S VIEW ON TRUST SCHOOLS?
ACTING TO PREVENT TRUST SCHOOLS FURTHER INFORMATION ON TRUST SCHOOLS
It is intended that the chapters can be adapted for local use individually or as a single document, as appropriate, within divisions and associations.
The information contained in the guidance document is summarised in a series of leaflets which can be distributed at local level:
Oppose Trust Schools – guidance for a good local school for every child and every community
Oppose Trust School Status – important information for parents about Trust Schools
Oppose Trust School Status – important information for governors about Trust Schools
