Vetting and Barring
The NUT is lobbying Government about flaws in the new Vetting and Barring Scheme. The new Scheme will require teachers and all those who work with children to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
From next July when the Scheme comes into operation, some 12.3 million workers will have to be registered and is expected to take 5 years. Any person unregistered by July 2015 will lose their entitlement to work in their chosen career.
We believe:-
- That the practice of disclosing unproven information to employers should be ended, now that the ISA will have agreed that an individual is suitable to work with children
- There should be fair, transparent process and a proper right to appeal; and
- The cost of the Scheme should not be incurred by the applicants themselves
