Mental Health Charter - Change the workplace not the worker
The NUT mental health charter is the Union's way of addressing the issues in schools and colleges which lead or contribute to mental ill-health in staff (e.g. excessive workload, bullying, discrimination, mishandled disciplinary procedures and negative working relationships with colleagues).
The charter aims to:
- Put the focus on the workplace, not the worker;
- Challenge employers to develop healthy workplaces and monitor progress;
- Make the promotion of good mental health at work a health and safety issue;
- Promote a collective approach when dealing with unhealthy workplaces.
The Charter contains the following overarching principles.
