The National Education Union came into existence on 1 September 2017 with over 450,000 members, a powerful voice for the whole education profession, in state-funded and independent schools and colleges. Combining the expertise and experience of both the ATL and NUT sections, the National Education Union is the UK’s largest education union. We are an effective and powerful voice – championing everyone who works in education.
As a major professional organisation, the NEU also plays a leading role in influencing education policies at national and local levels and in national negotiations relating to teachers' conditions, salaries and pensions. The Union is represented on major national education bodies and makes representations to central Government on all matters affecting teachers and schools.
