History of the awards

The winner of the 2016/17 National Representative of the Year award was Roz Morton of Sefton Association.

Roz Morton has worked tirelessly as NUT rep at Chesterfield High School Merseyside. Since becoming rep Roz has more than doubled NUT membership, motivated them to stand together and fight for fair pay progression despite having to organise in what, at times, can be a very hostile atmosphere in the school. Members in the school and the awards judges felt that Roz’s support for all staff in the school and her knowledge on all union matters were a huge asset to her members and the wider union and thoroughly deserving of recognition.

The winner of the 2016/17 National Officer of the Year award was Sam Ud-din of Lancashire Division

Sam Ud-din has been recognised for the incredible work he has carried out as secretary of Lancaster Morecambe & District Association and Lancaster Division over the last year but also over his long career as a teacher and NUT activist. The members who nominated him and the judging panel were particularly impressed with the energy and dedication Sam brings to local campaigns and both he and the NUT are known locally as champions of education and social justice because of this work.

In this video the winners of the regional and Wales awards talk about the rewards of their roles and the successes they have achieved.
