NUT Cymru, Wales’ largest Union for qualified teachers, has sent its congratulations to the thousands of school children across the country, together with everyone involved in their achievements, as they celebrate their GCSE results.
NUT Cymru Policy Officer, Owen Hathway, said:
“These results are very good news and are a testament to the hard work of pupils and teachers across Wales. Many hours of work have gone into securing these high standards; often well above and beyond the role of a teacher. Schools should be congratulated on the support they have given pupils and of course those pupils should be incredibly proud of their achievements.
“That we have seen the record high pass rate sustained yet again, especially against the backdrop of major education reforms, is a fantastic achievement. It is also pleasing to see the pass rate for the very top grades is up.
“Teachers will already be planning their approach for next year with the aim of again matching and improving on these grades. Naturally, in order to do that, we will have to ensure that the existing concerns of workload and funding are given attention as well as working together to manage the new challenges we face such as curriculum and qualification changes.”
