Over one hundred NUT members attended this year’s supply teachers conference. The conference which included members from across all regions was chaired by the NUT President, Anne Swift.
Acting General Secretary, Kevin Courtney spoke on the Union’s campaigns for supply teachers and how they can contribute to the Union’s other campaigns.
This was followed by an interactive discussion on Umbrella Company and Limited Company arrangements. Attendees were also given the opportunity to pose questions to organisers of “supply register” scheme offering an alternative to agencies.
Members were also given the chance to meet in regional groups. After lunch there was more opportunity for members to ask questions to a panel of politicians which included Labour education spokesman Lord Watson.
At the close of the meeting, many people chose to stay on for the Annual General Meeting of the NUT’s Supply Teacher Network.
